Once dropped off at an MRI PSO Drop Zone, your old computer or computer equipment will be transported to a Recycler.
It’s important that you remember to remove all personal information from your computer’s hard drive before you drop-off, as no items will be returned.
Every Approved Recycler will have a process for dismantling, breaking down and separating the different components of each product.
Computers contain hazardous materials, such as lead, cadmium and mercury, which need to be managed in a safe manner. Recyclable materials that can be recovered from computers include glass and plastics, iron, steel, aluminum and copper, and precious metals such as gold, platinum and silver.
By 2014-15, Recyclers will need to ensure that at least 90 per cent of the weight of material recycled is sent for further processing into useable materials. This process is called Material Recovery.
